If you are preparing an emergency plan for ice/DHS detainment*
If you are preparing an emergency plan for ICE/DHS detainment, BPLO (and Local 6516) recommends that you gather:
- An Emergency Contact (Responsible for answering a potential phone call from your detainment and alerting your Emergency Network);
- An Emergency Folder (Information and documentation to launch your legal case and maintain your life whilst away);
- An Emergency Plan (General Steps, Bond Plan, Childcare Plan, Housing Plan, Workplace Plan, Emergency Network).
Memorize the phone number of your Emergency Contact! See the Union’s detailed guide here.

__________
If you Encounter or are detained by ICE/DHS
- ICE/DHS intervene domestically. When encountering ICE/DHS, BPLO recommends you consider both your rights and best practices.
- Consider BPLO’s detailed advice here.
- Consider Brown’s own guidance here.
- If you see ICE in the Providence area, please call or text: (401) 675-1414!
- This is a Rhode Island rapid response network. Trained community members of the Defense Line will go confirm any sightings, confront officers, and patrol the area.
- If you want to stay updated with reports of any confirmed ICE presence, join the community WhatsApp group or Telegram group.
__________
If you are QUESTIONED OR DETAINED BY CBP**
- CBP intervenes at points-of-entry (the US border). Please see BPLO’s CBP guidance here.
- If you have been detained at the border, make sure to email both the BPLO Executive Board (via info@bplounion.org) and BPLO Staff Organizer, James, (james@local6516.org) with details of your situation. Upon receiving your inquiry, we will connect you with one of our dedicated immigration attorneys for guidance on next steps.
